The Living Oil Candle – The Message in a Jar

When my husband passed away, I thought I understood what grief would be.
I had studied the psychology. I had done the math.

But then I remembered her.

The widow in 2 Kings 4:1–7 had lost her husband, too.
Creditors came knocking, and all she had left was a little jar of oil.
A prophet told her, “Go. Gather empty vessels. Don’t just get a few.”
She shut the door behind her, as instructed, and poured.
And the oil didn’t stop
Not until every jar was filled.

That story got into me. It resonated with me.
Even though I was in a different time and another place
I understood that widow.

Not because I saw myself as broken,
But because I realized what it meant to pour anyway.
This candle is a literal reflection of that moment.
Not grief, growth. Not mourning, movement.

As learned from the wisdom of the widow’s oil.
